It’s Getting Colder

Maple trees have long since

shed their withered leaves

in the midst of winter’s hold,

warmth rising where our eyes meet.

It’s getting colder,

while our linked arms withhold

the frost from tugging

at our skin.

You are where the seasons furrow

in an unrequited masquerade;

it’s getting colder,

and I hope we never leave.
